Cambridge Technicals: Virtual visiting moderation arrangements
21 September 2020
We’re pleased to confirm the arrangements for Cambridge Technicals moderation in 2020/21. To find out more, why not join one of our Cambridge Technicals: Admin essentials training events online: book here to register.
How will the moderation process work?
Moderation will be available on-demand as normal; however, moderation visits will be ‘virtual’ rather than in person:
- You submit a claim via Interchange.
- Your moderator selects the sample of candidate work.
- You send us your sample of candidate work digitally.
- Your moderator carries out your visit virtually via Microsoft Teams.
- Your moderator moderates the internally assessed units remotely.
For more information, see the Virtual Visit Presentation by one of our Cambridge Technicals Principal Moderators.
Arranging your virtual visits
Virtual visits can take place from Monday 9 November. Your moderator will be in touch to arrange your visit – if you are close to needing a visit, do feel free to get in touch with them now.
You are entitled to two free visits per subject per year. You can request additional visits and these will be charged at a standard visit fee (see the fees list).
You can arrange for any units completed by Year 12 students (now in Year 13) before lockdown to be moderated as part of a virtual moderation visit this year – you just need to make a claim for these.
Making claims
Please make your claims at least two weeks before your visit. You will be able to submit claims from Monday 26 October. You will need to make new claims as any claims that have not yet been finalised will be removed from Interchange.
More information about making claims is available on our website. Don’t forget, to submit a claim, you need valid qualification entries.
Preparing and sending candidate work
Sending work digitally
It’s important students produce work in a format that will allow you to prepare your samples easily. This document provides information on how to prepare your work to be uploaded, file formats and how to label files.
The main way to send us your sample of candidate work will be through our new digital submission platform, Secure Exchange. You can send work by post only if you cannot send work digitally (see below).
We’ll be providing more detailed guidance about sending work via Secure Exchange in the coming weeks.
You must submit Art and Design samples digitally. We’ve created additional guidance on how to photograph and video candidate work as well as the format of the work.
Submitting work by post
If you cannot send candidate work digitally, you can send work by post for all subjects apart from Art and Design.
When you confirm your virtual visit with your moderator, please let them know you need to submit your sample by post – they will then provide you with more details on how to prepare and package your sample.
When you have prepared your sample, your moderator will arrange for the work to be collected.
Meaningful employer involvement (MEI) requirements
Meaningful employer involvement (MEI) is required for some 2016 Cambridge Technical qualifications (see our website for details). Employer involvement is an important contribution to these qualifications and we would encourage you to continue to make arrangements with employers, delivering this remotely where necessary. If your MEI plan cannot be met, please document the reasons why and share these with your moderator.
If you have any queries about this guidance, or about the arrangements for Cambridge Technical assessments, please call us on 01223 553998 or email us at vocational.qualifications@ocr.org.uk.
