Amendments to specification and assessment materials
We would like to draw your attention to amendments made to the Entry Level Art and Design specification. The changes have been made to reduce the administrative and assessment burden on centres and students and consist of the following:
- The number of components required for the Entry Level qualification has been reduced from three to two. As a result, ‘portfolio’ is now component 1 and ‘externally set task’ is now component 2. Students need to complete one portfolio, marked holistically against all four assessment objectives. Corresponding assessment grids and mark sheets have been adjusted accordingly.
- The requirement to study at least two specialist areas has been removed and students are now required to choose from at least one of the five specialist areas.
- These changes ensure the qualification mirrors the GCSE (9–1) thereby improving co-teachability.
- The assessment materials for the externally set task have been refreshed, with improvements made to the variety of starting points and range of stimuli available to students, encouraging responses from all the specialist areas available.
Up-to-date versions of the specification, assessment materials and forms can be found on the qualification page.
