First T Level subjects announced for 2020
12 October 2017
Digital, Construction, and Education and Childcare will be the first three T Levels developed for first teaching in September 2020.
This announcement was made as part of the DfE’s T Level action plan, which sets out T Levels progress to date and confirms next steps. According to the action plan:
- Consultations later this year will cover design principles, delivery, impact on current Level 2 provision, and occupational maps.
- The number of qualifications that are funded for 16 to 19 year olds is expected to reduce substantially in the future with the majority of providers offering T Levels by 2024.
- A policy is being developed on ‘bridging content’.
- Work has been commissioned to explore the possibilities for a ‘transition year’ to support lower attaining students. A set of proposals will be tested with education providers prior to consultation later this year.
- Accountability measures for T Levels will be developed alongside the programmes.
- The procurement process for Awarding Organisations will be launched in summer 2018.
The subjects announced for further phases are:
- From 2021: Legal, Finance and Accounting; Engineering and Manufacturing; and Health and Science.
- From 2022: Hair and Beauty; Agriculture, Environment and Animal Care; Business and Administrative; Catering and Hospitality; and Creative and Design.
