Cambridge Advanced Nationals (AAQ) our new Level 3 qualifications are available for first teaching in 2025.
These new qualifications follow the recent Department for Education decision to reform the qualifications system for students aged 16 and over. Our post-16 reform hub page explains more about what reform could mean for you and your post-16 curriculum. This reform and its timeframes might be subject to review under this or any future government. This could potentially result in a continuation of funding for our current Cambridge Technical Level 3 qualifications, which, under those circumstances, we would expect to continue to offer.
You can continue teaching our current Cambridge Technicals Level 3 qualifications with confidence in 2023/24. Apart from the Level 3 Cambridge Technical (2016) Diploma in IT (720 GLH) and the Level 3 Cambridge Technical (2016) Extended Diploma in IT (1080 GLH), which are to be defunded in July 2024, our other Level 3 Cambridge Technicals are unaffected in 2024/25. If there were to be a change to existing policies, for example, due to a change of government, this reform may be reviewed which could lead to a continuation of funding for current Level 3 qualifications.
The same size as an AS Level, the Certificate qualification builds applied knowledge and skills in each subject. When taken alongside A Levels, the Certificate helps you to build broader knowledge and skills that are valued in undergraduate study as part of your study programme at key stage 5.
The same size as an A Level, the Extended Certificate qualification builds applied knowledge and skills in each subject. When taken alongside A Levels, the Extended Certificate helps you to build broader knowledge and skills valued in undergraduate study as part of your study programme at key stage 5.
