STEP is an admissions test and is not classed as a qualification; candidates receive a statement of results but not a certificate.
In 2024, STEP results will be released on 15 August 2024 and will be available online until 1 June 2025.
All STEP questions are marked out of 20. The final grade for the paper is based on the student’s six best answers only. There are five possible grades:
The statement of results will state the candidate's grade and marks. If the candidate was absent, it will state 'absent'.
Candidates and centres can access results via the Results Online website.
Exams officers access the Results Online: Centres website using the same login details as the Entries Extranet. If you have misplaced your password, please use the ‘Forgotten your password?’ link on the sign in page.
Once you have logged in, you will see a list of the candidates who sat the tests at your centre.
You can access their statement of results by clicking on the button on the right-hand side of their name.
Candidates need to register with the Results Online: Candidates website using the PIN and candidate number provided on the confidential results information sheet. This sheet is sent to centres with the test materials and you must give this to candidates at the end of the test (see the test-specific instructions).
Please note: we cannot reissue candidate PINs. If students lose their PIN, they will need to ask you to download a statement of results for them.
Results will be passed to institutions by UCAS for use in their admissions processes. There is some variation in how different institutions make use of the results – candidates should contact the relevant institution(s) for more information.
For the University of Cambridge, copies of students' answer booklets are sent directly to the university admissions team. This enables the team to make judgments on students who miss their offer on the basis of their actual work, rather than on just their marks or grade.
