Entry Level Certificate in Mathematics R449
28 August 2019
We have made some changes to the specification, sample assessment materials, written tests and practical task guidance.
What has changed?
We have updated the marking criteria for the practical task in the specification and in the practical task guidance. There is now a separate AO1 marking criteria for students who have completed a structured task.
To make the written tests and sample assessment materials easier to use, we have amended the layout of these documents and made the diagrams clearer – we have not made changes to the questions in these materials.
We have also made the mark schemes for the written tests clearer without changing the answers. The answer column contains the correct answer only and this will earn full marks. The guidance column shows how part marks can be awarded when an incorrect answer is given. These changes should help make the mark schemes easier to understand and apply, resulting in more accurate marking for teachers and a smoother moderation process for all involved.
When do these changes take place?
These changes will happen from September 2019. All students entered in June 2020 will need to have their written tests and practical task marked using the updated mark schemes and marking criteria.
Where can I find these updated materials?
You can find the specification and sample assessment materials on the R449 qualification page of our website.
The written tests and practical task guidance are on Interchange. Simply hover over ‘Coursework and tests’, click on ‘Entry level tasks’ and scroll down to ‘New Mathematics (R449, from Sept 2016)’.
