AS and A Level Classical Civilisation
09 July 2019
We have made some changes to the specification and sample assessment materials of AS and A Level Classical Civilisation H008/H408 – the latest versions are now available to download from the qualification page.
Imperial Image (H008/22 and H408/22)
We have made some corrections to the prescribed visual sources on pages 19 and 29 of the H008 AS Level Classical Civilisation specification and pages 23 and 56 of the H408 A Level Classical Civilisation specification. These are mostly small formatting corrections, but we would specifically like to highlight the below changes, which will have an impact to the delivery of the course:
Old version (1.2)
|
New version (1.3)
|
Aureus obv. Portrait of Augustus with laurel wreath, rev. eight rayed comet with tail pointing upward |
Denarius, obv. Portrait of Augustus with oak wreath, rev. eight rayed comet with tail pointing upward |
Aureus obv. Bareheaded portrait of Augustus, rev. sacrificial implements above tripod and patera |
Denarius, obv. Bareheaded portrait of Augustus, rev. sacrificial implements above tripod and patera |
Invention of the Barbarian (H408/23)
We have made a small correction to the description of a prescribed visual source on pages 27 and 56 of the H408 A Level Classical Civilisation specification:
Red figure kylix, Persian and a Greek fighting, by the Triptolemus Painter.
We have also updated the sample assessment material to make sure the question in the mark scheme matches the question in the question paper.
Greek Art (H408/24)
We have made a formatting change to pages 30 and 58 of the H408 A Level Classical Civilisation specification to clearly state what visual / material sources need to be studied in the H408/24 Greek Art component. We have now listed the ‘Trojan War hydria’ and the ‘Dionysus and the Maenads pointed amphora’, both by the Kleophrades Painter, in separate bullet points.
We have also corrected a minor error on page 60 of the H408 specification.
