Core Maths and FSMQ quality assurance update for summer 2021
11 May 2021
The JCQ guidance on determining grades for GCSEs, AS and A Levels in summer 2021, also applies for students certificating in Core Maths and Free Standing Maths Qualification (FSMQ).
Further to this guidance, we can now confirm that as part of the external quality assurance process, we’ll be collecting samples of candidate evidence for these qualifications (as outlined in Ofqual’s recent update).
The sampling process for Core Maths and FSMQ, will align with those of our Cambridge National and Cambridge Technical qualifications. We will randomly select schools and colleges for the quality assurance checks and we’ll let you know by 25 June if you’ve been selected. You’ll then be asked to submit evidence and records for five students.
The evidence required will include:
- candidate work
- a record of grading decisions for these candidates
- a record of why outcomes might be different from historic outcome at cohort level (where applicable).
For further information on this and how to submit your evidence, please view our sampling guidance for Core Maths and FSMQ. This document also includes specific details for schools and colleges in Northern Ireland.
