GCSE (9-1) Economics updated marking approach
05 February 2019
Ahead of the first examination for GCSE (9-1) Economics, we are pleased to advise that we have updated our approach to marking questions where candidates are required to calculate an answer.
Our new approach, which aligns with many of our other qualifications, means candidates who write the correct answer, but who don’t show all their workings, do not lose marks unnecessarily.
This change is being implemented before the first live examination series this summer (2019), enabling all candidates for this qualification to sit papers with the same approach to calculation taken.
We would still encourage candidates to show their workings where appropriate as it is possible that marks may be given for a correct method despite their final answer being incorrect. Our sample assessment material has been updated to reflect this change. We will also be updating our practice papers (available via Interchange) and our candidate exemplars in the same way.
If you have any queries about this update, please call 01223 553998.
