Heston Blumenthal and his team to inspire food teachers at the OCR Food Skills Day
16 March 2016
Heston Blumenthal and his award-winning team of chefs from the Fat Duck Experimental Kitchen will help to inspire teachers of OCR’s new GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition at a training day in London in April. Food teachers from around the country are invited to a hands-on training event on 18 April at the Waitrose Cookery School in North London where Heston and his team will be offering support, insight and demonstrations to GCSE teachers.
At the 'OCR Food Skills Day' on 18 April, teachers will get a chance to refresh skills and to develop ideas to take back to their classroom. There will be a variety of practical sessions and demonstrations including culinary skills, sensory analysis, food styling, scientific investigation and food provenance on offer, aided by the Fat Duck and Waitrose Cookery School chefs. OCR’s subject specialists will be on hand to cover the key topics of OCR’s new GCSE and to discuss resources and teaching approaches to suit a wide range of students.
The subject specialists have been visiting schools around the country and reaction to the new GCSE has been very positive. Gill Taylor said: “Teachers like our clear and easy to follow specification which has been designed with all types of school and student in mind. We’re providing plenty of support, including the OCR Food Skills Day, to help teachers prepare."
