New OCR Geography Entry Level
30 August 2016
We are excited to have developed a new Geography Entry Level available for first teach in September 2016 to be co-teachable with the new GCSE (9-1) Geography specifications.
The new Entry Level has been developed to encourage learners to think like Geographers through an enquiry approach to contemporary topics including UK geography, megacities, tectonics, flooding, tropical rainforests and natural resources. Opportunities to study up to date case studies at a range of scales is a key feature of the specification as is the chance to explore fieldwork. This has been done to try and ensure that all learners are provided with the best possible opportunity to engage with “real life” geography content.
There is also scope for learners to develop their transferable skills beyond the specification though the Fieldwork Notebook and Personal Project tasks. Through these tasks it is hoped that not only will learners gain geographical knowledge and awareness but also valuable skills through completing their fieldwork and research. For both the Fieldwork Notebook and the Personal Project exemplar titles are provided, these titles are intended as guides (not a requirement) but will provide a range of ideas for both tasks; fieldwork for example does not have to be completed beyond the school grounds, the course has been to designed to allow flexibility so it can be adapted to best suit your learners.
You will be able to continue to teach our existing Entry Level Certificates (R406) in September 2017 and we will update you if there are any changes.
