Ofqual announcement on completing GCSE, AS and A Level reform
14 May 2015
Following a review, Ofqual has today published updated information on the GCSE and A Level qualifications to be reformed for teaching from September 2017. The review considered whether the content of eight qualifications met its principles for development.
The outcome for the eight qualifications is available from the relevant page of the Ofqual website.
The PDF provides updated tables listing the qualifications that will not be reformed for 2017 and those that can be reformed for 2017.
The future of other qualifications for 2017, such as lesser taught languages, is subject to continuing stakeholder engagement and further input from the regulator and the new government.
The last assessment opportunity for most qualifications that will not be reformed for 2017 is summer 2018. The last assessment opportunity for a number of qualifications which are listed as not available for teaching from September 2016 is summer 2017.
Please note: OCR’s A Levels in Applied Business, Applied Art and Design and Human Biology are listed as not being reformed for 2017 and not available for teaching from September 2015. For schools and colleges who are already teaching these qualifications, OCR has decided to make these available for an additional year so they will be available for teaching in September 2015, last assessment opportunity will also be summer 2017.
