This course, featuring Dr Sharon Marshall from the University of Exeter, explores key debates in relation to Virgil’s Aeneid, including the question of whether the Aeneid should be read as a pro- or anti-Augustan poem, the relationship between Dido and Aeneas, the Shield of Aeneas, the figure of Aeneas himself, and the ways in which Virgil engages with the epic tradition of Homer and Ennius.
