Both components include synoptic assessment. A minimum of 25% of assessment for this qualification will be synoptic.
Students must complete both components (01 and 02) to be awarded the OCR Level 3 Core Maths B (MEI).
Content overview
Both components include the use of pre-release material, which will be made available in advance of the examination. Students are able to familiarise themselves with the contexts and data in advance so that they can focus on problem solving during the examination. In both components, pre-release material will be specific to some but not all examination questions.

- Working with exponentials
- Working with graphs and gradients
- Geometry and measures

- Statistical problem solving
- Use of technology
Component 01: Introduction to quantitative reasoning
Students use problem-solving cycles in modelling, statistics and financial mathematics in a variety of contexts, and check the outcomes of their calculations. They also use appropriate technology to work with quantitative information.
Component 02: Statistical problem solving
Students use spreadsheets, the statistical problem solving cycle and more sophisticated statistical techniques to analyse authentic problems in a variety of contexts, working with large, real data sets.
Pre-release material comprises a large data set that can be used as teaching material throughout the course. It is comparable to a set text for a literature course.
