Thinking of teaching this qualification?

  • Withdrawal of Computer-based Tests (CBT)

In response to promoting the use and benefits of using new technology we introduced Computer-based Tests (CBT) for a number of GCSE qualifications.

Due to low centre demand for this form of assessment, we are now withdrawing the CBT option for the B142/01 unit.

From June 2014 candidates should only be entered for the written paper for the unit stated above. The CBT option will no longer be available.

If you have any queries regarding this change, please contact the Customer Contact Centre on 01223 553998 or email general.qualifications@ocr.org.uk

The final assessment opportunity for this qualification (J485) will be summer 2018.

Qualification update

Awarding bodies have made the difficult decision not to redevelop GCSE Law. However, if you are looking for an alternative GCSE course to replace Law, we recommend our new GCSE (9-1) in Citizenship Studies and History A qualifications developed for first teaching from September 2016. For further information see the notice to centres.

This qualification covers civil and criminal law focusing on the courts and processes, providing a basic understanding in Law and the relevant skills required for progression to A Level.

Benefits

  • Develop skills of problem solving, interpreting source material, evaluation and extended writing
  • An engaging course of study of substantive areas of law and rights and responsibilities
  • A range of models of assessment.
