Cambridge Technicals qualifications are awarded on the following grade scales:
Subsidiary Diploma, Foundation Diploma, Diploma
Candidates who do not reach the minimum standard will not achieve the qualification. Only qualifications in which the grades shown above are attained will be recorded on certificates.
Cambridge Technicals units are awarded as Distinction, Merit or Pass. The exceptions are Level 3 examined units where a near-pass 'R' grade is also available (see below) and Level 2 Units 1c which are graded as Achieved or Not Achieved.
The near-pass ‘R’ unit grade is designed for Level 3 Cambridge Technicals (2016) students who narrowly miss a Pass on externally assessed units.
This is a ‘safety net’ for Cambridge Technicals students that exists on other qualifications such as A Levels. Students who just miss a Pass on one or more externally assessed units will not be prevented from passing the qualification, providing they have a Pass or above on internally assessed units.
Students can achieve the overall qualification if they obtain at least:
This applies to all subjects and sizes of the Level 3 Cambridge Technicals (2016 suite).
